FAQs

  • Acupuncture is an ancient system of complementary medicine that has been used for over 2,500 years. Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of hair-thin needles at key points on the body. These needles stimulate the fascial network (our internal messenger system) to regulate brain chemistry. It also helps to adjust internal processes that regulate hormones like cortisol, release pain-relieving endorphins, increase circulation, reduce inflammation and more.

Acupuncture is an evidence-based technique recognized by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH). and the World Health Organization (WHO) to be effective in the treatment of a wide variety of medical disorders.

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a complete medical system that has been used to diagnose, treat, and prevent illnesses for more than 2,500 years. TCM naturally heals humans using three keys: acupuncture, herbal remedies and additional techniques.

Though commonly used together as a powerful holistic approach, each can be just as dynamic on their own. TCM believes the processes of the human body are interrelated and connected to the surrounding environment. And so, it treats the underlying root of health issues rather than the symptoms on the surface--all while strengthening the body’s internal defenses and enhancing its ability to sustain optimal health.

Any person performing acupuncture legally will be state licensed and have passed national medical boards administered by the NCCAOM.

  • Acupuncture is considered a low-risk, non-toxic medical intervention. Generally the only side effects that may occur would be local bruising at the needle site as well as temporary minor skin discoloration if gua sha or cupping has been utilized. There is also a chance you could feel a little lightheaded after treatment, but this is why we generally recommend eating an hour or two before your treatment.

If cupping or gua sha is utilized it is important that you stay rested and drink plenty of water. Do not consume any drugs or alcohol for a minimum of 24 hours afterwards.

  • Acupuncture is not painful. Needles are very thin, the diameter of a hair to ensure comfort. For most patients Acupuncture is a pleasant, comforting and restorative form of therapy. Acupuncture should never be painful, but the patient will have some sensation that is indicative of a therapeutic response.
